IS NAJIB FREED AFTER SERVING THE REMAINER OF HIS JAIL TERM UNDER HOUSE ARREST?

On 18/9/2026, Najib has been granted a conditional pardon to serve his remainder jail term at house under house arrest order.

As we all aware, Najib has another criminal case which is 1 MDB criminal trial and he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for different charges at the end of defence case on 26/12/2025. The High Court has also ordered that his imprisonment term to run consecutively right after he completes his jail term of the first case. The second case is now pending at Court of Appeal.

Assuming Najib has exhausted his standard channel to appeal and both appeals to Court of Appeal and Federal Court were dismissed, the sentencing meted out by High Court will remain intact. As the 2026 house arrest pardon strictly applies only to the first case, the 15-year term for his second case will officially take effect after 23/8/2028, Under normal circumstances, he will be sending back to prison to serve his jail term of second case after he completes his remainder jail term under house arrest until 23/8/2026 for first case if both appeals have been disposed of before 23/8/2026 unless he was granted another royal pardon. In the event his both appeals have been heard and disposed of after the expiry of house arrest order, he will be back to prison after he has served his remainder jail term ie on 23/8/2026 pending his appeals unless he was granted another royal pardon or the judgment including the 15 years jail term was reversed by the appellate court.

假设纳吉布已耗尽所有上诉途径，且其向上诉庭和联邦法院提出的上诉均被驳回，则高庭的判决将维持不变。由于2026年的居家监禁赦免仅适用于第一起案件，其第二起案件的15年刑期将于2028年8月23日之后正式生效。一般情况下，如果两项上诉均在2026年8月23日之前得到处理，除非他获得另一项皇家赦免，否则他将在完成第一起案件剩余的居家监禁刑期（直至2026年8月23日）后被送回监狱服第二起案件的刑期。如果他的两项上诉均在居家监禁令到期后得到审理和处理，那么他将在服完剩余刑期后（即 2026 年 8 月 23 日）返回监狱，等待上诉结果，除非他获得另一次皇家赦免，或者上诉法院推翻了包括 15 年监禁在内的判决。
